Do you have a YouTube channel that you’re managing with the help of freelancers or a digital marketing agency? If so, you need to know the easiest way to grant access.
There are two manual ways to add admins, but if you’re regularly collaborating with multiple partners, it can get repetitive and time-consuming.
That’s where an automated solution like Leadsie comes in handy.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through three ways to share access to your YouTube channel:
1. Manually using your Google Brand Account
2. Manually via YouTube Studio
3. With Leadsie for quick and secure access management
This way, you can stay in control of your assets while making collaboration easy.
BONUS: Share the last section with your freelancers/agency so they can request access to your YouTube channel with a single link!😁
When should you grant access to your YouTube channel?
There are plenty of situations where it makes sense to bring others on board your YouTube channel to streamline your workflow and keep your content fresh.
Let’s look at some common scenarios:
- Working with a video editor
If you’ve hired a video editor to handle the technical side of your content, you’ll need to grant them access so they can upload edited videos, update descriptions, and optimize thumbnails directly on your channel. This saves you time and ensures everything is published smoothly.
- Collaborating with a social media manager
A social media manager will help boost engagement on your channel by responding to comments, sharing updates, and analyzing viewer feedback. By giving them access to your YouTube channel, they can handle these tasks efficiently without you needing to micromanage.
- Partnering with a marketing agency
If you’ve hired an agency to grow your channel’s reach, they’ll need permission to access analytics, optimize content, and run ad campaigns. Grant them the right level of access so they can deliver results without delays.
- Getting support for channel maintenance
As your channel grows, so do the demands of maintaining it. Whether it’s cleaning up old videos, updating playlists, or ensuring your content aligns with your brand, a channel assistant will help take care of these tasks. However, be mindful of the permissions you assign to protect your channel’s integrity.
Types of access you can grant
Not all roles require the same level of access.
YouTube offers different permission levels, so you can control what others can do on your channel:
- Viewer: Can view analytics but can’t make any changes.
- Editor: Can edit content but can’t delete videos or manage permissions.
- Manager: Has most permissions but can’t delete the channel.
- Owner: Full control over the channel, including deleting it.
How to share access to your YouTube channel (3 ways)
Here’s how to grant access to your YouTube channel in three different ways:
1. Add a user via your Google Brand Account
Before anyone can manage your YouTube channel, you'll need to add them directly to your account. Here’s how:
1. Log in to your YouTube Studio account.
2. Click the Settings⚙️ menu on the left-hand side.
3. Choose Permissions, then select MANAGE PERMISSIONS.
4. If you manage permissions via your Google Brand Account, it will open a new window —> click on the blue box that says Manage permissions.
5. You’ll be redirected to the Google account login page.
6. Log in to your Google account.
7. Click the person with the + button in the top right corner.
8. Type the email address of the person you want to add.
9. Choose the permission you want to give them.
10. Click Invite.
11. Your invited users will receive an email inviting them to become an admin on your YouTube channel.
2. Add a user directly via YouTube Studio
If you prefer not to use the Google Brand Account route, you can update permissions directly within YouTube Studio:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Under Permissions in the YouTube Studio, click on MOVE PERMISSIONS.
3. Click SAVE.
4. Click INVITE in the top right-hand corner.
5. Add the email and select the permissions you want to grant (you have more options when you do it directly from YouTube).
6. Click SAVE.
You can remove access to your YouTube channel at any time by following the same process to add someone.
This method offers more flexibility and is quicker since you don’t have to switch between YouTube and Google accounts. Just change the person's channel permissions or remove access from your YouTube Studio.
